Be Still Enough to Notice
We move through so much of the day without really noticing what is happening around us—or within us.
We hear sounds, respond to people, complete tasks, think ahead, and move from one thing to the next.
But awareness asks something different of us.
It asks us to notice.
Notice the room you are in.
What sounds do you hear?
What catches your attention first?
Does everything feel loud?
Does the room feel busy, quiet, comfortable, distracting?
Now notice yourself within that room.
How are you breathing?
Are you rushing?
Are you holding yourself tightly?
Do you feel settled, distracted, restless, or calm?
You do not have to change anything yet.
Just become aware of it.
Take a slow breath in.
Exhale slowly.
Allow yourself to remain still for a moment.
Then notice again.
Has anything changed?
Perhaps the room sounds exactly the same, but you hear it differently.
Maybe the loudest sound is no longer the only thing you notice.
Maybe you begin to hear the quieter sounds underneath it.
Maybe your breathing feels slower.
Maybe your body feels a little less hurried.
Sometimes nothing outside of us has changed.
But our awareness has.
That is something we can practice throughout the day.
Pause before automatically moving to the next thing.
Notice where you are.
Notice what you hear.
Notice how you feel.
Notice what your body may be asking for.
Then continue your day with a little more awareness than you had before.
The more often we create these small moments of stillness, the more opportunities we give ourselves to step out of automatic movement and simply experience the moment we are actually in.
Awareness begins when we stop long enough to notice.
And sometimes, the quiet was there all along.
We simply had not noticed it yet.
If your body has been asking for more space to slow down, release tension, and feel supported, consider giving yourself that time intentionally. Therapeutic bodywork can create space for physical relief, deeper relaxation, and greater awareness of what your body may need.
